然而，当舜年事渐长时，南方九嶷山地区爆发了一系列战乱。他决定亲自前往解决这场纷争。在告诉两位夫人他的打算之后，他们担心他的安全，都强烈反对他去。女英坚持要跟随他前往，而尽管舜再三劝阻，她们坚决不放弃。这次旅行对她们来说是一段艰辛的旅程，但他们依然选择与丈夫同行。

当天空中并未出现舜帝归来的迹象，娥皇和女英的心中充满了忧虑。她们急切地想知道他去了哪里？最终，他们得知舜已经离开多日后才发现真相。 wives set out to follow him, their hearts heavy with worry.

After days of travel, they reached the banks of the Yangtze River, only to be hit by a fierce storm. Fortunately, a wise old fisherman recognized them as the empresses and helped them cross the river using his boat. They were forced to stay in a small temple on Doutong Mountain for several months until the storm subsided.

The two devoted wives spent countless sleepless nights anxiously awaiting news of their husband's return. They climbed to the mountaintop every day, gazing into the distance in hope that he would soon return home.

Their longing and yearning became an endless cycle - day after day, night after night - but there was no sign of his return. One calm afternoon, they spotted a ship with royal insignia approaching from afar. Overjoyed at first sight of it, they rushed down to meet it only to be met with solemn-faced attendants carrying sad tidings: "The emperor had passed away at Nine Hills Mountain."

Heartbroken upon hearing this news, both women collapsed on the spot. From then on, they visited Doutong Mountain daily and wept over its greenery while contemplating their beloved husband's final resting place among those hills.

Over time their tears fell onto these verdant slopes like raindrops creating permanent streaks that would never fade away - just like their memories and love for him remained etched forever in history.

Finally consumed by grief and nostalgia for her departed husband who had become one with nature itself through death; she joined him in eternal rest beneath Nine Hills' shadowy embrace while leaving behind her legend as 'Lady Xiang' or 'Xiang Wife'.
